About

Our Upper Elementary and Middle School program offers a hybrid educational model that combines the Montessori philosophy of student-centered learning with elements of more traditional curriculums. In our program, students have the opportunity to set the pace of their education while also experiencing structured elements such as due dates, scheduled activities, quizzes, and tests. We are excited to partner with the Apogee education network to enhance the educational experience we provide at AOW.

Our curriculum is designed to prepare students for life through a variety of daily activities:

  1. Core Academics: Each morning, students engage in core academic subjects, including reading, writing, math, spelling, and grammar, for three hours.

  2. Character Development: We use the Apogee Code to teach and hold students accountable to a set of norms for interaction and behavior.

  3. Socratic Discussions: These engaging conversations allow students to delve into topics by asking and answering questions, fostering critical thinking, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of subject matter.

  4. Project Based Learning (PBL): PBL is an educational approach where students engage in hands-on, real-world projects to explore and understand complex concepts. Projects typically last 4-6 weeks, allowing students to immerse themselves deeply in a topic, apply knowledge across various subjects, and develop critical skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity.

  5. Physical Training: Daily physical fitness activities, including calisthenics and ample outdoor time, are incorporated into our program.

  6. Extras: We offer a variety of enriching activities such as music, art, cooking, sewing, knitting, drama, woodworking, archery, and monthly field trips."
